Weekend swim meet and triathlon

Despite the bad weather we had 18 swimmers in the outdoor pool tonight.  The pool opened up from lightning just as practice started and then only a few showers.  We have 2 big events going on this weekend:

Swim Orlando (Erin's my club team) is hosting a meet this weekend. If you would like to help, I would appreciate it!
Vanessa will be swimming in the meet also!!
So far, Teresa has signed up for Saturday and Sunday night - and she needs a lane partner! You would be able to time with whomever you want.
Friday 7:30am -- 12:30pm
1:00pm -- 4pm (really desperate at this time slot)
5:30 -- 8pm

Saturday 7:30am -- 12 or 1:30 (there is a session on 400s)
12 or 1:30 again -- 5:15
5:30pm -- 8:40pm

Sunday 7:30am -- 11:15 or 2 (session of 1500s)
11 or 2 -- 5pm
5:30 -- 7:45pm

Triathalon
For those of you who've been kicking around multi-sport:

This sunday (6/29) there's a "sprint" triathalon - (by sprint they mean short distance)- at Baldwin Park
One of the events included is an "Aqua-bike" (so just the swim and the bike, no run)

Triathlon - Swim 0.75 km - Bike 13.4 mi - Run 2.5 miles
Duathlon - Run 5 km - Bike 13.4 mi - Run 2.5 miles
Aquabike - Swim 0.75 km - Bike 13.4 mi

Tuesday Thundershowers...

Well the lightning was raining down around us at about 6:30pm, but we were able to get in the pool and have practice about 7:20 or so. A few people had headed up to Heather's spin class. 10 swimmers in all enjoyed a shortened workout. We will bring a workout on Thursday, and Bruce will be back next week on Monday. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday there are still lots of timer spots open for the kids meet at the Aquatic center if anyone is interested please talk to Erin Crabtree. Flip Flop day

Free smoothies were had by all at the downtown Y this morning. Many MOO swimmers were spotted at the pool: Colin, Alison, Steve, Gill, Virginia Tech Mark, Vik, Diane, and Stacey. We had a nice swim.
Spotted at the lake this weekend were Sean, John, Ryan and Kathleen.

Saturday pick up practice 11am downtown

Tomorrow is flip-flop day at the Y.  Free smoothies to people wearing flip flops!
We will be having a fun practice Saturday 11am, bring your own workout.  We had a huge crowd last night of more than 21 swimmers.  We were just getting into the practice when there was a clap of thunder and pouring rain.  I heard what I thought was a team "moo", but turned out to be a group "Boo".  About 20 minutes later a few swimmers returned to the pool and goofed off a bit.

Weekend swim

Saturday team mates Alison, Mark, Heather, Stacey and Diane were all spotted in the pool.  Sunday 5 swimmers including Laura met to swim at noon.  The sonic boom was heard from the pool. Next weekend we are looking at a social trip with the pooches to the dog park.  Please see Teresa for more info.  We are also going to have a casual swim on Saturday, check back for more details on both of the weekends events.

Sunday swim at noon

A couple of us are looking at a casual swim on Sunday downtown at noon.

We had a great crowd last night of 19 swimmers, almost 4 in each lane!  We managed to work around the lightning last night unlike Tuesday.  Just a reminder, during the Summer don't forget your dry land workout clothes too as we get lots of lightning.  

Also this weekend lots of people are swimming at Lucky's in the morning.  Luckyslakeswim.com  if you have never done it, it's 1K across and back and lots of fun!  

Rumors from the block this week- Kristin from lane 1 got engaged!!!  Alison and Mark are moving to Kentucky, and we are thinking of having a get together either later this month or early next month.  Some swimmers are rubbing a dab of baby shampoo in their goggles before practice to cut down on the fog...  Our next meet is July 26-27.  That's it for now..... see everyone at the pool.

Nice crowd on Sunday

We had a nice crowd on Sunday, 10 swimmers, then everyone was invited over to Johns for a casual BBQ.
Several team members went to Wekiva Springs on Saturday for a fun day of Canoeing. If anyone took photos please send them to me.
Hope to see everyone at the pool Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Upcoming events- Cocoa Beach meet July 26-27. I hope everyone can go. Registration due July 16.  If you still need to sign up for MOO please talk to Bruce for the application.

Wekiva Springs Saturday 10am

I wanted to know if anyone would be interested in going to Wekiva Springs for a day of Canoeing, Rafting, Volleyball, Frisbee, Football, and Boozing on this Saturday. We would leave downtown around 10 am and play there for the day. Let me know who all is interested and then we can figure out what we need from the store. I will not be able to make it practice tonight but if I left anyone off invite them as well.

Thunderstorms...

We had 17 swimmers tonight, but got rained out at 7:20.  We would like to welcome the large number of new swimmers who are joining us! We headed upstairs to do a little workout, and talked a bit.  We also nominated John to plan the next social event.  Our next meet is in Cocoa Beach July 26-27.  This should be a fun 50 meter long course meet.  The relays will be deck entered and are only $5 a relay team.  Please let me know who is interested!
