Beatties 17th annual Open water Mile swim

There is an upcoming open water swimming event this Saturday in Lake Maitland. Several MOO swimmers have attended in the past years.

We had a great practice last night, and a pretty good turn-out despite the warm water.

Sunday pick up practice

>9 MOO swimmers hit the water Sunday at noon.  Alison, Teresa, Erin, Vanessa, Diane, Wayne, Greg, Colin & John.  Erin brought along a great workout, a good time was had by all.  We also had a casual vote and are going to try and get the troops together for the Long course meet in Cocoa July 26-27. If you have not yet signed up for MOO you do need to sign up before the meet. Click here for info on the Cocoa Meet.  See everyone at the pool on Tuesday. Remember the downtown Y closes at 6pm tomorrow night.

Holiday Weekend

It was a great start to the holiday weekend 6 MOO members were spotted at the downtown Y after work on Friday.  The pool closes at 6pm on Monday so there will be no normal practice.  If anyone wants to set up a casual practice just let me know.  We had a nice week of practice after the meet and moved to the indoor pool where we can dive in and the lanes are a little wider.  As it gets hotter outside the inside pool won't get as hot. 8 MOO members also went out for Wednesday night wings and beer to celebrate the meet.  We should do it again.

Hurricane Man

Here is a quote from the St Pete Masters web site about the Hurricane Man swim.  We get a big mention.

Matt Attal, 19, proved once again you are not to slow just to young by aging up from USA to USMS and showing the old guys how to do it winning the 2.4 miler in 53:26. But where o' where do those Orlando masters train for open water? They brought along unattached Kristin Rygg and took 3 out of 4 of the USMS first place towels home to Orlando. Kristin Rygg won the 2.4 women in 57:29. While Ryan Hall (16:05) and John Schrantz (15:42) each won their 1000m. Way to go Orlando. Their batting average is almost as good our Devil Rays this spring.

MOO places 8th out of 48 teams at YMCA nationals this weekend in Ft Lauderdale!  Great job to all of our swimmers!  A big thanks to coach Bruce for all of your hard work. I would say we tied with the Maryland crab team for most spirited thanks in part to Kathleen and her white caps and black sharpies. More photos and individual awards to come.

Great Job MOO at the Hurricane Man swim in St. Pete!!! John took 1st place for the Men in the 1K swim. Ryan took 1st place for the women in the 1K swim. Kristin took 1st place for the women in the 2.4 mile swim. Sean took Second place for the men in the 2.4 mile swim, moving up from 9th place last year, he also took 1st place in his age group. Kathleen took 2nd place in her age group!

YMCA nationals updates- If you aren't swimming Friday, but will be there by 7pm, meet us at the pope room at Buca De Beppo for a team dinner. John and Tom will bring canopies, but don't forget your sunscreen and hats.  We have signed up for 11 relays and lots of individual events.  If anyone is still in need of a ride, please let us know and we will try to help you out.  See you at practice Monday and Tuesday and everyone have a safe drive down.  I will try to e-mail everyone a phone number list so we can all stay in touch.

Saturday Practice and Blazing wing competition

Thanks to Bruce for helping us all with our starts at the Aquatic Center. 8 team members came out for the fun. Then a "you had to be there" kind of moment when Steve admitted he would do almost anything for a free t-shirt. The challenge eat 12 blazing hot wings in 6 minutes or less. NO drinks of any kind or dipping sauces. We all placed our bets on time, etc..., then the waitress brought the wings to the table with a waiver to be signed and a stop watch. In the end he set what might have been a new time record of just over 2 minutes. The bets were won by Colin, Jackie, and Greg. Steve got his picture taken for the wall, is being mailed his t-shirt and probably has severe heart burn. Go MOO...
