Saturday Practice 10:30am

We will be meeting this Saturday at the Aquatic Center on I-drive to practice starts, relay starts, and turns. Since we don't have blocks at our pool this will be a great opportunity to practice them before the meet. Anyone is welcome, even if you aren't swimming at nationals. We will try to do lunch after swimming. BYOT- Bring your own towel. The next week we have several people swimming the hurricane man, see Sean if you need info, then the following week is Nationals. See everyone at the pool on Thursday. If anyone still needs a t-shirt for nationals, please let Diane know.

Our youngest member went for his first Swim Saturday, mostly backstroke. Stay tuned, next week he will swim fly.

Meet dinner reservations...

Friday night in Ft Lauderdale we have dinner reservations. I hope everyone can join us, we will be in the pope room at Buca di Bepo. If you have never been there it is a family style pasta joint about 7 1/2 miles from the pool. We will split the bill, and it should be lots of fun, one big round table.
I will not be at the meet Saturday night, but if everyone wants to dine together again just let me know if someone can set that up. See you at the pool!

Nationals hotel info

Sean, Ryan, Wayne, Colin and others are booked at the Best Western. Remember to ask for the Masters room rate when you call. It is about 1/2 mile from the pool. Please refer to the list at the right for who is coming, including Bruce. We had 17 at practice tonight and worked on our entries after practice. Please let me know who is still interested in Tshirts, and we'll see what we can do. I think John and Steve both said they have tents. We will also be swimming downtown at 11am on Saturday, casual bring your own workout...

60 degree swim

It was a chilly night on Tuesday, but that didn't stop 15 of us from jumping in the pool. We tried to keep our shoulders underwater when we were stopped. Bruce even had on his parka. The deadline for Nationals is TOMORROW!!! Please bring your sign up sheet to Bruce on Thursday. We can all get together to work on sharing rooms or rides. See you at the pool!!!

Sunday Showers

We had 9 swimmers on Sunday. The water was nice and warm, which made the cool rain feel much better. We had a nice swim, Jack Jones even came out to watch us swim. Don't forget to give your Nationals Meet entry to Bruce by Thursday with a check.

Sunday Swim

A few of us will be having a casual swim at the Downtown Y on Sunday at Noon, anyone is welcome to join us.

*No Individual Entries will be accepted. Team entries are the rule for this year.
*Please submit your individual entry to Bruce by next Thursday, April 17th. Late entries will not be accepted.
*All checks must be made out to "Masters of Orlando" as the entry chairperson will only accept one check per team.
*Do not include any relay fees when totaling up your entry. MOO will pay for relays.
*Please include a photocopy of your Y membership card (both sides) with your individual entry.

Great Swim!

We had a huge crowd of 20 on Tuesday, and a hard swim, well in my lane at least. We also were able to update lots of information on our team member list. Keep up the good work, see everyone on Thursday. Let's hope for more good weather.

Monday night was a beautiful night for a swim, except for the leaves in the pool. We had 15 swimmers. This week we will have a team list on the deck. Please double check your contact information and help us fill in the blanks. See you at the pool tonight!

Welcome New MOO Members

Please welcome new MOO members: Erin Crabtree and Vanessa Martinez. Erin and Vanessa swim at the the YMCA Aquatic Center, but will be competing with MOO from now on. They both have extensive swimming backgrounds. Erin swam for FAU and Vanessa swam for Syracuse University. They both swam the St. Pete Master meet last month. Please welcome them to MOO. We look forward to seeing you both at future meets and events.

April showers bring May swim meets???

Several MOO swimmers were spotted at the downtown Y between thunderstorms: Wayne, Mark, Alison, Baby Jack, Diane, Greg, Harry and new Sean.
Thursday evening practice ran until about 7:40 when the pool was cleared for lightning.
Bruce is compiling the list for who is planning to attend YMCA nationals so please let him know, and let Diane know and we will try to keep the list on the blog updated. We are working on finding a good hotel. We will let everyone know what we find out.
Next Saturday at 3:00pm is a party at Ted's (next to Lucky's) for anyone who swam the 100K relay last year or who is interested in swimming next year. More info at WorldRecordSwim.com

AQUAMANIAC SEAN MCCORMACK DROWNS THE COMPETITION

AQUAMANIAC SEAN MCCORMACK DROWNS THE COMPETITION
YMCA Runner and Aquamaniac Sean McCormack competed in the St. Petersburg Masters Swim Meet on March 29th and 30th. He finished first in his age group in the 200 yard backstroke, 100 yard backstroke, 400 yard Individual Medley, and 200 yard Individual Medley. He also placed second in the 200 yard freestyle. As a result all this thrashing around in the pool, McCormack was recognized with a "coveted" 2nd Place High Point Towel Award (it was a lovely peach-colored Martha Stewart towel), which he then used to smack other inferior swimmers. YMCA Masters Nationals

We are planning on attending the YMCA Masters Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale during the weekend of May 15th through the 18th. This is a great meet to attend for those of you who are indecisive. The aquatic center is located one block from the Ft. Lauderdale beach. We attended this meet two years ago and had a blast. YMCA teams throughout the states come to compete at this national meet.

For more information about the meet itself, including entry forms, etc, click here. Please note that entries must be received by April 21, 2008. There are no qualifying times. The only requirements are that you are in good standing with your Y membership and have been a member for 90 days prior to May 15, 2008. You do not have to be registered with USMS.

We are in the process of researching potential hotels and arranging transportation to the meet. Please be on the lookout for future updates. For more information about the meet, ask Sean or Bruce.
